oh, how silly were all those idiots who entered the gas station and approached her cash register complaining about the rain outside 'Just because you think that the rain sucks doesn't make it a universal truth, asshole,' she would've told the last one if she could But as it was she just nodded and forced a lame smile and took the customer's money The gas station was alright most of the time. All that was not alright were the customers Nothing like being locked behind a counter and forced to smile and greet people while having to listen to their stories old ladies and families with kids and truckers and the occasional homeless who stumbles in drunk The worst of all were those who engaged in casual conversation That was the bane of her existence most of ‘em went like: "Nice ring you got there in your eyebrow, didn't it…

A broken, rickety wooden door in a stone wall

Such a feeble door

it was a joke

like made of cardboard

it stayed ajar

and the rusty knob was barely hanging to it

it didn’t actually work

and there was no locking it either

the only thing that made it

close was its misalignment with the

frame

It just kinda pushed into the frame

and stayed like that

It was bad

And it was worse when daddy

got really drunk and

started banging on things

And it was the worst when daddy’s friends

got him even drunker and

made him pass out on the moldy couch

and came in to play with his little girl

Tonight would be

one of those times

Well, when you’re desperate you’re… “Me,” he said He was alone in the room and lonely enough to have bought one of those Ouija boards from some old woman who called herself a medium It was time to try it out All he hoped for was a sexy ghost that would haunt him, maybe hurt him a bit, he wouldn’t mind Anything just to take away the soul-crushing loneliness Anything! He said the prayers exactly as the medium instructed and did the breathing exercises and was ready to use the board he moved the piece to spell HELLO got no answer Looked around the room Nothing Again, he spelled HELLO. IS ANYONE HERE? ANYONE AT ALL? ARE YOU FEMALE? Nothing Nothing new at least. Only more loneliness and more frustration and lower down the rabbit hole of misfits he slipped WELL FUCK YOU! he spelled and jammed the pointy side…

There were times
when I got
home
threw my backpack in the corner
took off my shoes
my jacket
walked into my room
took off my pants, my shirt
put on sweatpants, another shirt
turned on the PC
ate a bag of salty potato chips
drank whatever I could
wasted time

I was happy in those times

life itself is

this truth

that’s why she brought them

into the backyard

where all the small trash bags,

“It’s like that Easter game

Let’s hide

It was the police

cat shaking the paw by Bogdan Dragos

She could say it if
she wanted
to but
the words would
carry no
weight behind them

like a cat shaking
the paw with
you
and not understanding
the real meaning
behind
the gesture

so was her
every
“I love you.”

Enough to make an
old boy cry
but he
preferred suicide

Needless to say
her response
was
“Meh.”

Shock by Bogdan Dragos

Blood spilling down old and molded stone stairs

the three of them stood by the

banks and watched

the water turn

red

So it’s not like in the movies. When

you see someone dying

you don’t burst into

uncontrollable fits of screaming

You stand very still

and watch

and can’t speak

can’t blink

can’t turn away

can’t run

can’t do anything really

Shock is not something that makes

you jump

It’s a cement that stuns you

there was still more and

more blood seeping

from the body impaled in

the jagged rocks. The river

turned red on all directions around it

Death was a scary thing

but not having a stepfather

who sent you to beg in the streets so he

can drink the profits

made up for it

When there was no more

blood to be

carried away by the water

they smiled

All three at once

mother forbade feeding the poor thing

By Bogdan Dragos

there was a dog outside and it kept barking for some reason Ah yes, it was chained and the chain was terribly short and the poor animal was hungry Mother wouldn’t bother feeding it No, mother wanted it to die because it had been father’s dog, inherited along with the house after father died Mother forbade feeding the poor thing Her child stood next to the window and listened to the poor thing barking outside It was better than listening to mother drinking and talking ugly words with her boyfriends He opened the window and the dog saw him immediately and barked at him He wanted to cry Tried talking to the creature but it wouldn’t listen. It kept barking “Mother would cut my hand off if she caught me stealing food for you.” But he was a smart kid He leaned over the window and thrust…

An abstract image of many colored paper hands reaching towards a paper globe

yes, there are those days

when you lie

in bed

with palms under your head

and stare at the

cracks in the

ceiling

There were many cracks on

the kid’s

ceiling

and he watched them

imagining that

they were borders

between countries

He was looking upon

a world map

and he started naming

the countries

and their people

some were humans

and others

were beast folk

and fairies and demons

and the politics

between these countries

were quite shaky.

There were wars all

the time

and that was

easy to imagine,

for the background noise

of wars

was very vivid

just a door

away

It was getting

quite intense now
